Donald E. Knollinger, the son of Arthur Eugene and Eleanor (Flading) Knollinger, was a long-time genealogy researcher and frequent visitor to the Marshall County WVGenWeb site. He appreciated the abundance of genealogical information on the site, and he became a member of the Marshall County Virtual Genealogy Society. At the age of 68, Don, formerly of Moundville, died suddenly on November 22, 2007 at his home in Summerfield, Florida. KNOLLINGER, Donald E., “Don,” 68, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Moundsville, and Wheeling, W.Va., died suddenly November 22, 2007, at home.
Don was born September 8, 1939 in Wheeling to the late Arthur and Eleanor Flading Knollinger.
He was a Lutheran by faith; and a 1957 graduate of Wheeling High School. Don moved to Florida in 2002.
He retired from Allied Chemical as an Instrument Supervisor. Don proudly served his country as a Chief Warrant Officer in the US Army.
Don loved his hobby of Amateur Radio as Extra class operator WB8ZTV; and received many honors including “Amateur of the Year” from The Triple States Amateur Radio Club and the American Radio Relay League. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; and belonged to the American Legion, Blake Brothers Post 46, Benwood, W.Va.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Kathryn (Kathy) Carroll Knollinger; daughter, Susie (Brian) McGlumphy and their children, Kathryn Jessica Ickes, Joseph Ickes, and Marissa Carroll; son, Michael (Amy) and their children, Zachary, Raegan and Emerson Carroll; son, Steve (Lori) and their children, Madison, Gage, and Landon Carroll; sons, Quinton and Brenton Knollinger; daughter, Misty Suzanne Knollinger and children, Kalan, Melissa and Sara; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Susan Ickes; one sister, Carol (Richard) Schmalz; two aunts, Margie (Jerry) Fisher and Joanna (Howard) Conner; many cousins, especially Connie Knollinger Wendel, who shared a special bond with “Cuz Donnie”; and nieces and nephews who were all dearly loved.
Don was also a special brother-in-law to Grant (Libby) Kniedler, Chris (Janet) Kniedler, Mary Jo Kniedler (Bob) McLaughlin and Bernadette (Diane Illig) Kniedler.
Services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2007, at 1 p.m., at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Boggs Run Road, Benwood, with Pastor Mary Prather officiating.
