By Robert Abercrombie, Grandson of Bob & Helen.

Robert Benjamin Abercrombie, born January 18, 1915, was the son of Benjamin H. and Ida (Weisgerber) Abercrombie. Benjamin H. was the son of Theodore and Margaret (Warden) Abercrombie, residents of Dallas, Marshall County, when Benjamin was born.

Robert "Bob" had just turned eight years old when his mother, Ida, died on January 26, 1923. His brother, Andrew, was a year older, and there were two young sisters, Joanne and Sara. Their father married Mary Wingerter the following year, and the family is found in the 1930 census living on 19th Street in Wheeling.

In 1943, Bob enlisted in the army and served in World War II. He also served as a truck driver during the Korean War.

Bob and Helen lived on Boggs Run in the Fairview Heights subdivision, on the hill across from St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He bought several lots over the years, and he spent a lot of time raising beagles on his property.

Sometime in the 1970s, Bob retired from Suburban Motor Freight.

Helen (Shipic) Abercrombie died on November 22, 1981, and Bob stayed on Boggs Run until his death on February 15, 1990. They are buried at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
